Welcome to my research website

Lynn A. Addington
I am a professor in the Department of Justice, Law and Criminology at American University in Washington, DC. My research focuses on fatal and non-fatal violent victimization with a current emphasis on older adults. This work explores patterns and correlates as well as post-victimization responses by victims, criminal justice actors, and service providers. I have extensive experience working with federal crime data sources including the summary UCR, UCR-NIBRS, NCVS (and its supplements), NISVS, and NVDRS.

I also am interested in ways to better connect research with practice and policy. I frequently partner with local and national government agencies and non-profit organizations to support their efforts to address crime and victimization. I have served on dozens of task forces, expert review panels, and standing committees.

My work has been funded by the US Department of Justice (Bureau of Justice Statistics and National Institute of Justice), the American Education Research Association, and the American Statistical Association.
In 2016, I received AU’s top award for faculty research. In 2025, I received the University at Albany's Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy Distinguished Alumna Award.
